With my artwork I try to amalgamate the cultural experience of a youth spent in New Zealand with
the fast paced urban living of London, where I am currently based. There is a prevalent
Maori and Pacific feel to my work, as seen through the Koru or fern frond. I attempt to draw the viewer into
the bright fabric of Maori mythology with the appearance of the mythical monster the Taniwha as well as exploring traditional
Maori weaving, flora and fauna. This rich background helps me explore the juxtaposition of the order
of the city (sharp lines, work split into straight sections)
with the chaotic wilderness of nature (random swirls of the
unfurling koru and bright colours). This creates within me a sense of balance; a comfortable equilibrium
between two very different yet equally beautiful worlds. I hope that a sense of this is conveyed through my work.
I am a firm believer that nothing in this world is static. As with all things my work will grow and
change as I learn and explore new ideas and influences. I will build more and paint more and I hope that you will
continue to visit and enjoy the ride.
